The Town Of Tahlequah

When Billy goes to get his dogs in Tahlequah. He goes by some boys on a school playground. They were making fun of Billy because he had a dirty farm boy look to him instead of looking like a clean city boy. When Billy finally got to the post office he had already been laughed at, stared at, and made fun of many times. He found though that the mailman was a nice man. The mailman gave him the puppies. He cut two holes for the puppies mouths in the flower bag that Billy brought from home to carry the dogs in. After Billy said thanks and got the puppies all settled he then walked through the town. He was laughed at and stared at even more. Then a boy from the school pulled one of Billy's dog's whiskers. Billy got in a fight with a bunch of boys. Billy was getting beat up. Then Billy saw two shoes next to his face and they were Marshal shoes. Billy had heard stories about Marshals; how Marshals killed people all the time, even if they didn't do anything wrong. Billy thought he was in BIG trouble, but instead the Marshal was a savior to Billy. He told the boys wrestling Billy to get off of him and stay out of trouble. This was a big surprise to Billy. The Marshal then asked if Billy was okay. Billy said he was fine. The Marshal offered Billy some pop and Billy said yes. So they drank some pop and then Billy was on his way home. And while Billy was walking home he discovered that he didn't want to be a city boy because city boys were cruel. That is as far as I am going to write tonight. The Dog-Wanting Disease

  I've been reading Where The Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls for a couple days. So far it has been a wonderful book. The first chapter is about Billy, who as an adult, rescues a red hound from a dog fight. The dog reminds him of his childhood so he tells of his childhood in many other chapters. I happen to be reading his childhood.

Billy lives in Northeastern, Oklahoma. He is a 10 year who goes through a horrible "dog-wanting disease." Every kid gets it, but Billy's was worse than any other. Billy wanted two hunting hounds. His parents couldn't afford $100 worth of dogs. Billy soon found an ad for 2 hunting hounds for only $50 in a magazine. They were in Kentucky though, but Billy could have the mailman carry them all the way to Tahlequah, but that was the farthest he would go. Billy decides he will save his money for the dogs. His Grandpa helps Billy earn money. In only two years, Billy saved $50  by selling fishing bait, hides, and much more. Billy snuck out of his house one night and headed for Tahlequah. He got his puppies, but he went through some tough times in the town of Tahlequah. You'll have to read the book to find out what more happens. KEEP TUNED AND KEEP READING!

Newsgirl The Beginning

Amelia, her mom, (Sophie) and her friend, Estele head off on a long journey to California in 1851 ( California Gold Rush ) They go on a ship from Boston called the Unicorn. When they arrive in San Fransisco after a long, hard journey Estele is sick of being on ships. The three of them believed that their house that Amelia's Uncle Paul sent would be in San Fransisco already. Unfortunately, NO! So they end up living in a cold tent. Amelia goes out to get food for her "family." She finds that there aren't many women in San Fransisco. She sees the men look at her differently than the men around her. Amelia also makes many friends when she is out.  She tells her Mom and Estele all about her experiences out side of the tent. Sophie and Estele start to worry about the plans they made to make dresses and aprons for the women in California. Sophie stresses about it so much that it makes Amelia want to do something to earn money. When she finds that newspaper selling might earn her some money she decides to do that. But will that be the best job because there are rough boys in San Fransisco that sell newspapers for their family. Will the other boys appreciate her kindness and generosity to her family? Book club

There are a lot of blogs that do kind of read along book clubs. Where you like read a book and write about it on the blog and people can follow along with you. Well I've decided to start one of those book club blogs. So I will start today. I started a book a few weeks ago called Newsgirl it is written by Liza Ketchum. Just to give you a little teaser. It is about a girl named Amelia who moves to California with her Mom and her friend, Estele. It is put in the time line of the California Gold Rush. So there aren't many woman in California. Estele and Amelia's mom planned to sell dresses in California,but who will buy their dresses. They have to deal with that California isn't a very safe place for women. Amelia wants to help her mom get money so she decides to sell newspapers, but could that be the safest job for just a little girl?

My Mom read this book first and she said it was wonderful. If you would like to follow along with my reading club than you may become a follower or member. The Secret Garden

A great classic to read is The Secret Garden. It is a mystery and a fun book to read by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Many girls read this book. It is more for girls than boys.

The Secret Garden is about a little girl named Mary who comes from India. She moves into her Uncle's house after her parents die. She is very selfish and not very social or kind. When she goes outside though she changes. Many people don't know how she is changes and how others change too, like her cousin Colin who is sick and the grumpy head gardener.  She soon finds a garden that changes the lives of the people around her. Could the garden possibly be magical? You'll have to read the book to find out more.

This is a great book for ages 9 and older. Many adults love this book also. Lots of people will enjoy this book.

13 Treasures

13 Treasures is an interesting, suspenseful book by Michelle Harrison. It is full of fantasy characters such as fairies, trolls, and many more. Tanya is one of the few people who can see these creatures, or so she thinks. This book is full of a lot of scary mysteries.

Tanya has many problems in her life. The fairies that haunt her house are out to get her by wrecking things. This makes Tanya look like she did it. Her mother can’t take it any longer, so Tanya is sent to her Grandmother’s boring house. This time it isn’t that boring, but more scary because at her Grandmother’s house the fairies haunt the house like it is their own home.  

An old woman known as a witch gives Tanya a compass. She says it will help Tanya find her way to a magical place. Not only is that going on, but her Grandmother’s house has a history of witchcraft and secret passage ways.

This book is a journey for Tanya and the reader. Once you start imagining all the things that Tanya is going through, you will love it.
